I have plenty of free time now, since exams are done and finished with. So I started taking care of the stuff I have neglected lately. Cleaning the room, filing, reading a book, learning C, oh and taking care of my Gmail account. By that, I mean unsubscribing from newsletters which I don't give a hoot about.
Here's this one from Asetek. Of course, I was lucky (or rather not..) to find an Unsubscribed link in the bottom of the newsletter since usually those pricks don't even care about putting one up, thinking they can keep on sending crap. (just in case this is happening to you.. google: gmail filters).
So anyway, I clicked the unsubscribe button and I was sent to a page with a field and two Submit buttons:
Email: ______
Subscribe | Unsubscribe
This already started to tick me off. Why do I have to type in my email and choose to unsubscribe? Wasn't that why I clicked Unsubscribed at the bottom of the newsletter in the first place?
So after wasting 10 seconds typing my email and clicking Unsubscribe, I received an email to confirm that I actually want to do this (i.e. unsubscribe)... I assumed it was going to be some link to a script which removes my email from a database. Nope. This is what I got. Why do I need a fucking degree from university to confirm? WHY?
After wracking my brain, in the middle of the night, with a couple of drinks in my head, I figured I have to send an empty reply. I did, while grumbling what a crappy system this is. Even a fucking 15 year old developer can build a better system. And what does a company like this get? A bunch of morons.
Oh no, that wasn't the end. After sending that empty reply to confirm, I got an email back. After spending 15 minutes trying to unsubscribe this is what I get? You're unable to carry out my request because you can't find my email address? I'm sure you can find it, if you want to send your marketing crap, pricks.
I give up. Gmail Filters are the way to go.
