Ghadira Bay

mellieha Today I spent most of the day at Ghadira Bay.. It's one of the beaches you can find on the Maltese Islands, and correct me if I'm wrong, it's the biggest beach on the islands.

I'm not really a big fan of beaches, i.e. I don't spend all my free time during the summer at the beach. In fact, if I do go more than five times during the summer period, that's considered a lot. (well being me, of course).

Of course, I had to take the bus, but it wasn't really that bad.. On the way to the beach it was a bit sticky and stuff.. The bus was full of tourists (probably their first trip down to Ghadira), and it was one of those "coach" type buses so most of the windows couldn't be opened. But it wasn't that bad, the driver was pushing it, so we were driving a long pretty fast.

I think it's my third time driving through Mellieha this year, and it reminds me that Malta isn't actually full of tower cranes and block of flats. Having spent 9 months at Msida, it really is kinda hard to picture Malta anything other than block of flats, cranes, cars, and car's exhaust. But, yeah, going for a ride from Xemxija to Mellieha, it's a pleasure to be able to see such magnificent views!

There isn't much to talk about being actually at the beach. Just the normal usual stuff, going for a swim, relaxing a bit on the sand, etc.

Going back home, now that's the best €1.16 I ever spent on a bus ride. OK, the driver didn't really have a nice character, I mean, you talk to him, you get no reply, not even a nod. It's like saying "Thank you" or "keep the change" to the wall. But anyway, he sure did drive fast.. The bus was one of the old ones (Bedford), but in a really good shape and coupled with a driver in a hurry, it made the whole experience unforgettable. Open windows, mild breeze, good looking chicks, engine roaring while going through bends and climbing hills, hell we're living the American Dream, baby!

Though the the thing that dumbfounded most of the tourists was when we went through a red light. We were approaching some traffic lights and they were green, the driver was pushing it a bit more to make it through, halfway there, the colors turned orange, and well, I believe when you see orange, you're supposed to brake, right? Not with this guy, full throttle ahead dude! In the last moment the colors turned red, and it was just a little too late to stop, so we kept going through. The tourists were like "OMG, did we just went through a red light, on a public bus?". I just said to myself "Hehe, welcome to Malta".
