Today I had a little experience which I don't go through very often (fortunately!)..
So, I was getting back home from school, which, by the way, is still going strong. Probably stronger than ever since I only have one month left before exams commence! Anyway, I was at Naxxar in no time (for a change.. I think the driver needed to take a piss or something because he was pushing the damn thing) and after getting off the bus, I got a little bit of adrenaline rush.
Take a look at this pic, I'll explain below.
Pictured is the area where I got off the bus this afternoon.. The road has one lane for each way as shown by the big red arrow. The bus didn't drive off instantly since there was a couple of people that wanted to get off at the pictured bus stop. So I started walking towards the back of the bus so that I could cross the road. I looked on the right and took notice that "car 1" and "car 2" where idling waiting for the bus to start driving again.. So carefully I took a look at the left side to see if there was any oncoming traffic and there was none. Sensing that both "car 1" and "car 2" where still idling, and since I took a look at the right side just a second before, I made my first leap. I hadn't even had time to put my foot on the ground before a horn honked at me and sensing that it came from the right side, I took a look and man the adrenaline was rushing. I was less than a meter away from "car 3", which, by the way, was still coming to a stop.
Apparently, the b*stard didn't feel like waiting behind the other cars so he decided to drive on the other lane, in a wrong way manner.
I didn't take a look from where "car 3" was coming. I mean, logically, if this is a busy street, and cars should be going this way and not the other way round, no cars *should* be coming from that side. I guess logic shouldn't be applied on the roads, especially Maltese roads.
Next to the driver was a middle aged woman, presumably his wife, who gave me a look which basically meant "Do you know what the f*ck you're doing?". I just kept walking, I didn't want to argue. Especially these days, when you could get easily stabbed by a pocket knife or something like that by some hothead.
So, yeah, I learned another lesson this day. Being careful is never too careful.
And oh, I suck at illustrating diagrams.
